I seen this tractor on e-bay before and it is way to far away to buy. I noticed the extra low steering wheel and just assumed that someone cut the steering shaft. I also noticed that there is no hole on the left side of the hood for the air cleaner. Every picture and every V series I have seen had a hole on the left side. I know it could have been patched. I don't have any pictures of a VO orchard and was just wondring if this could be one of the 511 built??

The steering wheel on my V Case sticks up alot higher than in the picture on the tractor in auction. According to the pictures in the books I have, it looks like a vo. However if I remember correctly our intake some through a hole in the hood. Happy Bidding!

i posted this thing two weeks ago.

its a VI

case made 734 of these little beauties. they didnt have a hole in the hood for the breather either. the shorter steering shaft may be the 1942 model. as far as i know the orchard models were tall like the V.

Looks like a plain model V to me except for the exhaust stack and air cleaner intake pipe not being there. I guess the orchards didn't have them sticking up into the tree branches. Most orchards have some pretty special tinwork on them don't they? If the ID plate is still on the dashboard, the serial number should start with VO and then the numbers. It would be interesting to ask the seller if the plate is there. Meanwhile, I've just started getting into my model V, bought it about 7 years ago for $125 and it looks like it'll be a fun project but lots of work to do.

I found a picture and a VO is the only V model without a hole for the air cleaner. The steering wheel is much lower on the tractor on auction, but with the tin work in the picture I have you can't tell if it is low like the e-bay tractor. Most orchards are missing there tin and with it being in Ca. it has a good chance of being a orchard.

I know that we are talking about the V series but the following VAO info may be helpful: The Case manual for VAO tractors has 2 pages of pictures for identification purposes and the left side of the VAO is shown; exhaust swept back and down ala Ford N series, air cleaner stack is short with the top of the cap just under the bottom edge of the hood, steering wheel is mounted low on a short column and the fenders are the butterfly type. I've seen 5 or 6 VAO orchards in this area and only one was equipped with full rear fenders, none had the full tin which makes me think that this was a dealer installed option. I also know of 2 VAOs one of which has a vertical-up exhaust and the other has short no-muffler cast elbow with a flattened opening that comes straight out and down at about a 30 deg. angle. I've heard that Case was pretty much assembling anything that would work right after the war due to the high demand for tractors. That would help explain the variety of configurations within the various models of that period. The link will take you to my webpage where some of these are pictured. NOTE: By the time I took the pictures some modifications by past owners had been made. However, I saw these tractors years ago and can verify that the exhaust, steering, etc. are original. :-)
