I am looking at a Case 580 CK loader backhoe, with a model 33 loader and backhoe. What should I be looking at on this tractor? It has a gas engine. The brakes are shot. Is it a hard job to repair the brakes? Also, the swing cylinders leak. Is it difficult to repair these cylinders, and is it likely that cylinder seals will fix the problem? Any help or insight anyone has on this model would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Hi BWhite, I have a '68 580Ck with the 188 Diesel. The brakes are an easy repair, but not much even when they are good, so don't expect much. If has the shuttle, don't be surprized if it seems to take awhile to get going until its warm. Mine has been doing that for years and still works fine. Look at the loader frame for cracks and repairs on the right loader arm. Most machines have some sign of stress at this point, but can be reinforced and welded. Cylinders are not too difficult to overhaul yourself and parts are reasonable. Pins and bushings can be a problem if they have shoulders on them and require access to a large press. I had mine done at the local college heavy duty mechanics shop as a class project for the cost of the parts alone. Otherwise a sweet little machine that does everything you could expect within reason.
Don't be afraid to make a deal. Best of luck, Jes

B, neither the brakes or cylinders should be beyond the average shadetree mechanic. If the rods aren't scored or pitted, seals should fix the cylinders. If you need parts, try the link below
