I have one Case SC gas manifold on a 1949 model tractor that is made differently from the others. Looking at it from the side, it has a rectangular center riser. All the other SC manifolds have a tapered center riser. The same exhaust elbow fits all of them. Is it a older or newer design or what?

Mryon,

My '49SC has the rectangular exhaust manifold, too.

According to Don L., the tapered manifold is a later version.

Not sure when they changed- but I pulled this tapered SC manifold off of a parts tractor with an Eagle Hitch:

I could probably tell you a changeover year once I get home to my parts manuals.

Actually, one of my 1949 models has the rectangular manifold and the other one has a tapered one. Perhaps 1949 was the year they changed them? The tapered manifolds seem to be more durable. I had to weld a patch on the rectangular one.

Myron,

My "S" Series Parts Catalog (No. E213) shows the square manifold as part # 5622A. The date on this manual is 8-51.

My "S" Series Parts Catolog (No. 522) shows the tapered manifold (still shown as part # 5622A.) No previous version is shown, and there is no serial number break noted between versions.

You can tell where they erased the center of the manifold in the diagram and redrew it. This later parts catalog is dated 12-52.
