I have a 42 SC with a cracked intake manifold. Can this be welded or do i have to replace the whole thing? Currently i have it fixed somewhat with JB weld and a clamp that just happened to fit. Just use the tractor for show and parade,, not puling it hard. Should i proceed to fix or leave good enough alone. If it has been sucking in air has the valve been burned or damaged? thanks in advance. DS

I recently brazed my exhaust manifold on a 830, it works great. If it'll work on something like an exhaust manifold I don't know why you would have a problem on an intake manifold. Just make sure you do a good job cleaning up the surfaces to be brazed.

I have a 1945 SC which needed major manifold work when I got it 6 years ago. The problem was the faces where the gasket sealed the manifold to the block were badly corroded/burned to the point that very little of any flat surfaces existed. I had the bad areas built up by a freind who knew how to braze on cast iron. He did an excellant job and I than had the faces re-milled flat. The manifold has been good and tight ever since.
So, my answer to you is first, if the tractor runs good maybe everything is OK. But if you think you are burning some valves then you should fix or replace the manifold or you'll be in for some costly repairs and work down the road. Know any good welders?
