I am having trouble timing up an SC magneto. The distributor cap was damaged by a cow's horn who took a liking to chewing the plug wires. When my father in law took the mag to the dealer, they tore it apart and sent it back to me in pieces in a box. I found two teeth with red marks on the rotor and tried lining them up with the dot on the shaft that meshes with it with no luck. I put the first cylinder on TDC on the compression stroke and tried to line the rotor up that way and still nothing. I also would like to know what the points should be gapped to in the magneto if anyone could help me out. I have had it on and off so many times it ain't funny. I am getting spark to the plugs. Any information would be greatly appreciated!

I had the same trouble with my DC magneto. I finally had to take it off, take out the spark plugs, and hook them up to the wires. After I did this, I turned the rotor and watched the firing order coming out of the mag. Number them from 1-4. Next, put the number 1 cylinder at the top of its stroke, put the spark plugs back on. Bring the mag around so that on the next rev. it will spark on the one that you marked 1. Now line up the rotor teeth and the shaft and put on the mag. If this fails, loosen the mag and tilt it a little one way, tighten and try again. It that fails, tilt the other way. About the point setting, I'm not sure. I just took a guess. I fixed my mag myself. E-mail me with your progress
