I'm looking at buying a Kubota L35 (26hp) loader/backhoe. I want to pull small fuel oil storage tanks (0-1000 gallons) out in residential neighborhoods. I only have a 3/4 ton truck to pull it with currently. Any comments on the Kubota or some other loader/backhoe someone would suggest. Comments welcome. Would like to get a larger backhoe in the furture, but currently will use a smaller one. Thanks for your help.

I posted a note, but don't look like it really posted. Anyway my note said about the same as
Wayne's. Only thing I can add is if you have any place near you that rents hoes, rent several sizes and brands to try them out. The lift capacity is very important, what it will lift straight out behind and what you can swing are 2 differant numbers.

Never pulled tanks out of the ground but I can tell you that lifting one out is not the same as lifting one off of the floor. The dirt stuck to the bottom & sides adds a lot of weight, besides the slop left inside. A 1000 gal. tank probably weighs 1000 lbs (a nice 7 ga or 1/4"). Next what does the hoe you are looking at lift extended?? the tank is not right in front of you, it is in an odd spot ( next to a tree)?

I have a 780 Case which is the biggest hoe Case makes and it lifts like 2500 lbs out at 18 ft extended. The front lifts 8000 lbs. I think you may need a real backhoe for what you are attempting to do. You could break the front end if you get jerking it out. Pose this question at>Link

Except for the stealing, been there, done that, learned to get the right equipment. A lot less breakdowns, never tore up this 780 yet. I've pushed over 12" to 16" trees (headrow type garbage trees NOT gum or oak) in about one minute. It has never disappionted me although it is very heavy, weighs 22,000 lbs. You should at least have a 580. Not to be smart... but you are going to be in trouble with a toy... money spent, wife on your butt like a wet diaper, won't do the job you bought it for. It would be great for landscaping, laying cable, small foundations where a 580 won't fit etc?? I don't recall Arnold Schwartzeneger ever saying that "I can't afford a M-60 machine gun so I'll use this 22 for now .....
