Sure does have alot of paint on the manifold, for a good running tractor???? But R's are hard to find in the states, mostly in Canada.

Let me take it a step further. My old friend and collector has a Case R on steel, cutest little thing you ever did see.

Just a standard version of a RC. That one had the sun burst grille and I would think it may be hard to find. The R series have a Wakashau flathead and are not power houses, but I have a 1936 RC that I use almost daily and it is a workhorse..

Well, du-uh, I guess I shouldda knowed that. It's just that I'm not sure if I ever heard of an "R" without a "C" right after it. Sure would like to have one of them with a sunburst grille. Don't b'lieve I've ever seen one.

Except for the missing grille and belt pulley it looks like the one in Letourneaus' Case Tractors Guide (page 98).

Guess I'll have to get me one of those books. Maybe the white color helped throw me off. I know I've never seen one. Of any color.

The paint on the R and RCs was called RC grey which was a light shade of grey. So the picture may make it look white, but I would guess it's the correct paint. Clausen was afraid they would look like the C series and hurt the sales. The R was cheaper and clausen (the case president a former Deere managment man)didn't want them made, advertized, or sold. He thought they could make and sell the C and L series forever. They did style them both in 39. Clausen was a big hold back for the Case company. The R series were also painted red after 1938..

So Clausen probably figured that Case could really save some money if they'd just get rid of every other cylinder on their 4-bangers..... .right? :-)

The newer "styled" R and RC tractors received not
only the rounded tinwork, they received a 4th gear
and the new Flambeau paint job. I could be wrong,
but I don't think the paint job is right on this
one. Good luck to anyone who can find a good sunburst grill from an R or RC that isn't already
attached to a restorable tractor.
