Found a complete 500 Diesel last weekend. Engine Im sure is stuck, will need to lumber some trees to get her out. Parked estimated 20 years. Front sheet metal nice, fendars typical dents.

What should I offer the current owner?

I would pick it up as a parts tractor for 2-300 bucks. It could take a ton of money to get it going again. Refurbishing the engine on my 600 (it was running ) is going to be 1600 bucks for the engine alone. Tires will be another 700 etc.

As caseman d said, they are very costly to fix. Bid 200 to 375 on the one in the weeds and stick $3000 in it. Buy em running and drivin so you can hear the final drive. Many have noisey pinion drives, not uncommon at all. Don L.

Depending why it was parked and what the tins like, Since it needs tires offer him 200.00. Parts are spendy.

Hey caseman; Is that yours? or did you buy it? $1825 seems cheap for that 500. How much of a job to change those pumps? John

No it's not mine, that one has way to much paint on it to be one of mine. Was using it as an example as to what a running one brings vs a stuck one thats been sitting for some time. I know it also makes a difference on where you are located at. I heard heads for these old tractors are getting hard to find and can run from 250.00-450.00 apiece. I did notice however that the one above has an inline injector pump instead of the rotary that should be on it. There was also a 500 in Montana a few weeks ago that went for 810.00, I did think about bidding on that one, but still long ways away.

I was thinkin about bidding on it..... .but 1400 miles of trucking is about $1000.00. Take notice that the paint had not been burned off the manifold yet. For a pullin tractor, it takes a few hard pulls stinky, and smokey to burn it off. But that tractor looked good. Ifin it had a matched rear tires, I would had bid a couple.
