Here's a picture of the tractor I've been looking at now that the snow has gone down some. The guy says it's stuck and needs a magneto. He's going to take it inside and work on it. Says he was looking for $800 when it was running. It's a '45.

Guess I will have to raise the price on my 1944, at least mine would turn over. Hopefully if the weather turns nice again I will see if mine will run. All I have left to do is clean sediment bowl and add some gas to it.

Looks like the air cleaner assembly is missing, fenders are a plus. Might check the front wheel bearing, I just got done pricing out bearings and it didn't make much difference if from Napa or Case, no bigger than they were it surprised me on the cost. Well good luck with it.

If it was running last summer, I'd guess it isn't stuck too tight. We got my '44 SC free w/marvel-it hadn't run for a couple of years & had exhaust covered & still stuck. Mag might be a problem-parts for Case Mags in our part of the world are REALLY hard to come by. You can use a Delco distributor for a Farmsmall on them, the kind where the cap sits @ right angle-we've had to do a couple like that. IMHO, I'd be more concerned about lack of air cleaner than it being stuck.

Looks like a Char-Lynn pump. Don't remember how they were tied down. I'll ask my BIL, he had one. Wheels look right, even the front ones, from what I can see. They came w/steel & cast, we've got one of each, but pressed steel was more common, I think. The cast ones (probably only came w/eagle hitches) are 16" & came on my '54. They are not the same as a DC's. We got an extra set of weights - paid $37.50 for the pair at an auction, let ya have 'em for that, but ya gotta come & get 'em.

It could also have about a 100# weight under the radiator. Ya gotta take 'em out w/bale hook & rad has to be off, or you REALLY got to be careful not to hurt the radiator. That one probably don't have it anymore, w/loader hanging on the front. (My $0.02 worth. jal-SD)

Hey Les,

That wide open exhaust manifold scares me... how much snow do you think got down there? No wonder it's stuck.

When was the last time that he had it running?

It looks rusty, but pretty complete. By that bit of chrome I see, you might have a few new gauges, to boot.

What's that thing on the butt end of it? Is that a hydraulic pump for the loader?

Keep us posted!

The old guy that owns it says it ran a little last summer. That exhaust being open to the sky scared me, too. He says it was covered up at the beginning of the winter but somehow became uncovered.
I was also impressed with the straightness of the tin. The gauges do look new, and yes, that is a rugged hydraulic pump for the loader. Ralph's LA had one like that on it when he drug it home from Mini soda.
Are those the right wheels?

Hey Les,

Yeah, those are the right rear wheels (can't see the front ones.)

Flat cast wheels for '41 & '42, then it seems that every '43 I've ever seen is on cut down steel wheels. I think the spoked cast wheels started in '44. The rear rims are an odd color- can't tell if they were painted, or if it's that green color that some of the (galvanized) rims turn over time.

The fenders look pretty good.

I see you're missing an air cleaner and intake stack, a gas cap and a radiator cap.

It appears to be a dual-fuel tractor, but it has a gasoline manifold on it. Must have been replaced at some point.

So... what keeps the hydraulic pump from spinning around on the PTO shaft? I couldn't see any sort of hold down bracket.

Well, I didn't inspect it close enough to see how it was secured to keep it from spinning. Ralph could probably answer that better. Maybe he'll be along later this evenin'.
You notice that extra tire and rim leaned up against the right hand side of the tractor. Owner says he has the mate to it and that's part of the deal. The rear tires on it are in real good shape...no weather cracks and a good 70 or 80% tread.
