I found some more info on the Case bomb in the war pictures. It was a 500 pound demolition bomb. Full steam ahead or any of the other books don't list it as being a Case war product, but I found it listed in two different 1945 publications. So that is one more thing to add to the Case list. I found were Ralph Hallin a man from one of the Case tool rooms said that when he was stationed on the island of New Caledonia he seen case war materials including a VAIW tractors, 500 pound demolition bombs, Bofors guns, and 155 mm guns. Don't mean much to some, but is cool to me!!

CASEPOWER-

One thing you do get from reading Full Steam Ahead is how J.I. Case was constantly expanding their plants to meet their workload. Seems like I remember reading something about them having the largest foundry around for quite awhile.

Like you- I've always wondered about the 1946 work strike at CASE. I wonder if it happened because everybody had been working lots of overtime on war production and decided they wanted more benefits after the war was over (and they could finally strike without hurting the war effort)... or if it was because the people who had worked in the plant before the war didn't want to go back to work at the same standard of living after being soldiers and seeing the world.

No wonder that Case strike made John's dad crazy- the first chance to build and sell new equipment that everyone's dying for... and suddenly you lose the edge to your competition.

(p.s. - do you think the WWII scrap drives turned any of those Deeres into 500 pound CASE bombs?)

LOL @ Schotte...

Why would they have to turn 'em? I thought all Deeres were bombs anyhow..... ....

Sorry .....just couldn't resist a set-up that good.
