I just wanted to let you know that there were 3600 dealers and 35 branch houses located in USA. This was as of 1951. I have quite a few more dealers if I can get time to add them to my list. How close are you to 3600??

I e-mailed Don with a couple names.

Hackbarth-Nelson Farm Supply, Hampton IA. I copied some ads from microfilm of the papers of that time-pretty interesting. They were in business from 30's to 39 or 40.

Mott Implement Co., Hampton IA. Delos W. Mott purchased the dealership from Hackbarth and nelson. I found an ad from 1940 by him, but I don't know when he got out.

Can you tell me where you got the 3600 Dealer number from? I have to admit that surprised me a bit. I have close to 300 although some were from before 1951 and some started after. Thanks for your efforts. I would be very grateful for a copy of the ads you found. Don

Don, Court documents from 1951 USA vs JI CASE. The opening of the case to the court states it. It also has alot of dealers the was not re-contracted to sale for the late 40s. So I have a lot of dealers from the late 40s that I don't have listed. I probily have another 100 that are not on my list yet. If I can get time to get them on I will let you know..

Now that is interesting. None of the old dealers I talked to have mentioned anything about a court case. I do know that Case had a lot of "part time" dealers who were also feed stores, car dealerships, horse jockeys, hardware stores, etc. It sounds like they tried to consolidate (eliminate) some of these in the early 50's and they really consolidated dealers again in the late 60's and early 70's when they set up the company stores in many areas. At least that seems to be the pattern I am hearing about from the people that are still alive. I see that you are getting some dealers from items on E-bay. Good detective work! Thanks for your help. Don
