I was just wondering if any of you dual fuel tractor owners have ever tried to run on kerosene instead of gasoline? Is the fuel consumption any different? Was there any noticable difference in power?

As brother Les said, I run my Lane sawmill with a dual-fuel Case LAE. I start it on gas and then turn it to kerosene once the temp is up. That's usually the time it takes to saw one log, as it warms up very fast. I haven't noticed any difference in power but I have always thought that the Lane should be run with 1oo HP or more. It is sufficient for my needs because we just use the mill as a hobby. We have built three houses, a barn and other buildings with it and the old 1951 LAE has always been the power for it. I love those old LA's. The mill engine is the same age as me, so we're both old. I also have an original owner's manual which refers to the kerosene as "Low-cost Fuel". HAH! Not today, thank you. Good luck with it.

I have a 1938 John Deere B that I take to plow days and pull a one bottom trailer plow. I thought it would be fun to run kerosene so I tried it last year. I waited till temp was up and switched it over to the main (kerosene) tank. Ran well but lots of white smoke when not actually working. Ran better with the plow in the ground. give it a try, lots of fun. Dan J

If you are considering running kerosene, first make sure the pistons haven't been replaced with higher compression gasoline pistons. If you are not sure, do a compression check. All fuel pistons will have a cranking pressure around 70 to 75 pounds while gasoline pressure will be in the 90 to 100 PSI for older tractors. Gene

My brother runs his LAE to power the sawmill on kerosene all the time. Hopefully he'll check in and can probably answer your questions.

When I was a young man I had an F-20 that was run on Kerosene. Actually, my Grandfather told me that it wasn't the type of kerosene that we use today. It was called "Power fuel" and he would mix it for my F-20 by mixing one gallon of gasoline and 5 gallons of kerosene. That is about all I know about it, but it sure made my F-20 run well. The only problem was you had to make sure that you didn't kill the engine while it was running on "power fuel" because you had to drain the fuel lines to get it started on gas again (if it had the chance to cool off). Don't know if this is any help.

My family used to run all our Case tractors (C, D, L, LA) on 'power kerosene'

Unfortunately it has not been available here in Australia for at least 30 years.

Some owners of old tractors here mix aviation kerosene with petrol (gasoline) to make up a fuel something like power kerosene. Tractors designed for dual fuel run better on it than on petrol (gasoline) alone
