Any thoughts from the Case experts out there?
Have a very good running 611-b tractor. It will idle smooth at 450 RPM. However, when shifting into gear, any gear, there is always a " slight grinding/meshing" of the gears. Dad bought this new in 60 and says it has always been this way. He related to me that the Dealer back then mentioned that he could repair this problem but the unit needed split to repair. Any idea what the repair involves?
Thanks

My dad said there was some kind of port in there that if you drilled it out it would drain the oil faster when you pushed in on the clutch which would stop the grinding. They done it to a friends 630. It would be alittle bit of work but i wouldn't think it would be that hard. i don't know i have never done it my self just my dad told me

This may be the "fix" the dealer told Dad about.
Fisrt I'm going to change to DextronIII. Thanks

My 830 does it also. I stop, count to three, and it doesn't grind.(Has to be idling) I'm using hy-tran ultra from the dealer. That seems to make it whine when it's cold. The hy-tran seems to foam also. I was going to put TCH in it and see what happens.

Andy, I wouldn't worry about it, it won't hurt anything. Dad & uncle Bob bought 830's back in '62 & they both still do it, they have ran ATF oil in them as long as I can remember, EXCEPT a few years ago we switched Dad's to the TCH oil from Case, since the TCH was somewhat thicker than ATF it made the grinding into gear worse, especially in cold weather. There is no "BRAKE" in there to stop the convertor from turning when you press the clutch pedal, it's turning from the drag on the oil in the turbine, that's why our's got worse in cold weather. I don't know what the dealer would do, I've never heard of a cure, not saying there isn't one because I don't know. Once I get this one in gear, I stop all movement if I need to switch gears, that helps a lot..... Roger

I don't know what oil you are using but I would try Dextron ATF and see if that helps
