I bought my 48 VAO in Sacramento for $200 stuck, $51 for a carb on ebay, dist cap, wires, rotor, points, condensor, nuts, screws, gas line and fittings, etc at NAPA, $80, hydralic pump, carb linkage, original radiator cap $100, many parts still needed. Best $8 I spent was to Yesterday's Tractors. Plan to drive mine to the store for beer hope it has the HorsePower to get me home.

We like our VAC because it starts/runs pretty well, but frankly, as the saying goes, it couldn't pull the hat off your head!

I'm from western PA. I was at an auction about a year ago, they had a 1954 VAC-14 in pretty solid mechanical cond, tinwork pretty rough, with the eagle hitch fuctioning well. It sold for $500. I personally wouldn't go too much higher than that, maybe $700-$800, because I've seen restored ones in great shape sell for $1400-$1500, and you never know what you're gonna get into in a restoration. Hope you find this info useful.

I've had 7 VAs and paid from 65 to 750 dollars for them. The 65 dollar one is minus wheels, tires, hood, cylinder head, carburetor and distributor. The $75 tractor was complete except for carb and distributor and had a stuck valve. The $750 VAC was a late one with live hydraulics and Eagle hitch. It was complete but dis-assembled; runs great now that it's put together again. At the 32nd Annual Machinery Consignment Auction here last year a VAC that had the earlier mid-mount lift and original but very faded paint brought $1500. These tractors are easy to work on, have good power and last a lifetime. One of my tractors, a 1947 VAC, is known to have never been re-clutched, rebuilt or retired(I use it almost every day, for one thing or another). I had 3 or 4 Ford 8 and 9ns and I wouldn't trade ONE of my VAs for the lot of them!

I bought a case VA (like a VAC but a standard front end instead of a row crop) for a little under 800 in August of last year. It had okay rear tires, a 12volt alternator and a homemade three pt and it ran great. It needed the hydraulic pump fixed, two front tires, a battery and it really needs paint. I'm in Illinois and sometimes I think I overpaid, I know I wouldn't pay more for the tractor in the condition I bought it. The VA series was about a 17-19 horse tractor on the belt and 13 on the drawbar. There's a profile on the case Va series on this page. The later VA series had live hydraulics (on the govenor I believe) for sure and maybe live pto and the eagle hitch which would make them worth more in my opinion
Hope this helped
Ross

The price depends on the overall condition of the tractor.I have purchased Vac's from 100.00 to 800.00 in the past. These tractors needed restoration, but were running well.

You might get lucky and pick one up for just a few hundred. I paid $1400 for mine a couple years ago in the condition you are describing and most midwesterners (I'm in NH) think that was way too much.

Nebraska put the 20.06 on the belt but didn't show hp for max drawbar in Wndell book. My calculation puts it at about 15.5 on the drawbar.

In Official Nebraska Test number 431 a VAC equipped with standard gasoline engine (NOT the high altitude motor) developed 19.04 brake hp. and 15.00 drawbar hp. Maximum drawbar pull was measured at 2,768 lbs.(un-weighted).

Thanks.
What could this tractor be used for?
I.E. Raking, plowing, mowing things like that.

After one of his horses died my Grandpa farmed 120 acres with a 1947 VAC. If you can find the implemets for a VAC you can do a lot of work with them. They are one tough little tractor.
