Casepower/Mike,

That tank on that DC isn't a factory job. Looks like the right hood for LP but the factory tanks sat crosswise with the battery still behind it. Didn't they use a lot of those single wheels in California for the vegatable fields narrower rows? Sure glad we didn't use those on the farm though. Can't imagine what it would be like going accross corn stuble with one. Just like driving an old F-20. There's something to drive with that cable steering. Realize your problem in lack of fuel source but I think you would love one if you had it. Remember when I was still on the farm a family friend had a DC-4 LP that he used for custom work on the chopper and plowing. Finally traded it for a 800 COM and the guy who bought the Dc made the dealer tear it down and convert to gas. Wish all engines were as clean with not much wear as that one. Would love to have an LA propane to fix up if I had room to store it. We used a gas job from the dealer in the Spring to plow. Fun to roll the earth but you needed a big gas barrel. Farmers were very happy when the 500 came along.

John

Hey Guys,

Since we were talking about factory tanks versus aftermarket conversions- I remembered that I do have some photos of a DC-3 on LPG. I can't speak to whether or not it's a factory LP model, but it probably was.

This is all that's left of model #5403877DC. I snapped this pic at the Paysinger auction in November:

There are a few more views of this tractor in my "Auction Tractors" folder (link below.)

Enjoyed your photos. Where is the junkyard? Love to browse through old iron.

Mike,
That sure does look like a factory setup to me. To be sure the head should be 6128. Many of the DC's I found had the other heads or lights mounted funny or other things out of place. I agree that LP tractors look funny so in order to go over the edge I am going to put an extendable front end on as well. It will be so ugly as to be cute. Thats what my daughter says about Tom Petty anyway. Don PS In 1954 LP gas was .06 cents a gallon.

Don,

What's up with your e-mail? I've been trying to write you for two days... and it keeps getting returned to me a undeliverable.

This is the same address that has worked before- so I'm wondering what's going on.

I would pay 300+ for the single front tire set up. it would be great for my puller.

ROGER; I've got a 900 LP I'd like to sell. Need $2,000 out of it. Engine is stuck, block is cracked, overall though the tractor looks pretty good.

Nah Jonathan- I've got absolutely *no* interest in the LPG tractors... although RobertTX says you wouldn't believe how clean they are inside when you take 'em apart.

Did you notice the headlights were mounted like on a DC-4?

I've never seen a factory DC with LPG (or an aftermarket coversion for that matter)- so I have no idea how they mounted the tank. I'm sure that Don R. can tell us, since he just took one out of my neck of the woods.

CASEPOWER, I bet that if you paid 'em that $6,000 you were talking about- they'd be sure and throw in the hitch adapter that lets you hook the tractor up to that mobile home in the background... (grin)

Mike, you don't know what your'e missing by no interest in LP gas, I've got an 830 & a 930 LP, if possible, I'd have LP on everything. Don't get me wrong, I don't look down on you for not being interested in it, to each our own. I have an uncle that is scared to death of LP so I know a little about how you feel about it, some people just don't care for it..... ...Roger p.s. I agree with Don R, I don't think its a factory setup either, the tank don't look right

Hi Roger,

The main reason that I'm not interested in the LP gas tractors is because I don't have anywhere to get the fuel.

It seems a little silly to get a storage tank and find a company to deliver gas for one or two tractors to run on.

I also freely admit that I wouldn't know the first thing about one of those carburetor/pressure regulator thingamabobs...

In my opinion, those fuel tanks aren't the most graceful things in the world when mounted onto an older tractor. I haven't seen too many models that the tank doesn't sortof ruin the lines of the original design.

I always wanted to see an LP Farmall "M" up close- I think the steering column goes through the MIDDLE of a doughnut shaped tank! I bet that's real fun to work on.

Regards, -Schotte

Doesn't look like a factory LP setup to me. Unique single front end though. Hmm, maybe a weekend trip to CA. Anybody know a good attorney?
