I HAVE A FRIEND WHO PARTED OUT THREE SC CASE TRACTORS AND ONE OF THEM HAD SOLID BRASS LEFTSIDE RIGHTSIDE BRAKE PEDALS. WERE THESE TO DESIGNATE A SPECIAL TRACTOR? THEY BOTH HAVE CASE EAGLES CAST INTO THEM. JUST WONDERING IF THERE WAS A SPECIAL REASON FOR THESE TO BE BRASS. IS THERE ANY MENTION IN THE ARCHIVES ABOUT THIS?

I have a 44 with them on it. I noticed in one of the last Heratige Eagles That a man made mention of his S having them also. I have salvaged about 15 to 20 SCs and never had any until this one with them. I looked at all my DCs and they are all cast. This must have just been done only a short time maybe during the war for some reason. If he wants to sell the pedals i would be interested. They look good polished up on my 44. Thad

Hi Thad,

Thanks for the info. It's interesting that both the brass pedal SCs that have turned up on this board have been 1944 models.

I'm sure it has something to do with the wartime production- but it does seem odd... as they'd need brass just as much as any of the other metals.

Do you mind listing the serial number of your '44? I'd like to start recording them- maybe after a few years I'll be able to piece together when this production change started and stopped.

Regards, -Schotte

The serial # on mine is 4803420SC. I plan on keeping the tractor. It got a work out during this snow pulling my kids around on a homade sled. So i have to keep it just for the kids sake that way the wife has to let me keep it. Thad

Thanks, Thad- I logged your serial number.

Did you realize that your '44 and FredCT's '44 SC with the brass pedals are exactly 20 serial numbers apart from each other? (yours is older than his)

Pretty amazing coincidence, really. Once we find a few more of the brass pedal models, we can see how spread out they are...

My 1944 S also has the BRONZE pedals. They were used during the war years when cast iron was in short supply. I also have mine polished and clear coated. They look really nice. Gene

I have two SC's - 4803440 & 4810188. The 4803440 has the brass peddals - the other has cast. I am new to Case and, when I first noticed the brass peddals I thought it was just what the were mad of. I plan on making one good tractor out of these two so I will be sure to keep the Brass peddals. FredCT

I don't know anything about the brass pedals, but it's been mentioned on this board before (see below.)

If I had to guess- I'd say they might be early production castings. Post the part number- it would be interesting to see if they are the same number as the regular cast iron pedal.

Maybe Kenny C. or somebody else with a '41 model SC can take a look at their pedals for you.

Good luck, let us know what you find out.
