6 volt positive ground system. All wiring contact areas cleaned thoroughly &wiring checked out. Rebuilt 6 volt generator and double checked for proper output, new 2 gage batt. cables, new regulator from case/ih and have tried 2 different new case/ih regulators, double checked for proper grounding in system. With tractor running 1/2 throttle, and I remove the neg. cable from batt. post, engine dies. voltage off gen. armature checks at less than 1 volt, run jumper wire from batt. terminal to gen. terminal on regulator and then volt check off gen. is 6 plus volts. ???? any suggestions will be appreciated.

It sounds like maybe you don't have connection from the regulator Batt terminal to the battery. Does this wire go to the switch? Check switch for continuity. The name says it all - That terminal has to be connected to the battery.

Hi, Allan C. The batt. wire goes from the amp. gage to batt. terminal on reg. Could prob. be in amp. gage?? I will run a jumper wire direct from batt. to reg. batt. terminal & then check gen. outout. Thank You, C.D. Zook

Yes, it could be the Amp guage but more likely just the connections rusted or the wire broken in the insulation right by the terminal.

I forgot to mention that I am also now using a 6 volt batterry, in place of the previous 8 volt battery, but charge prob. results are the same. The 6 volt does not turn engine as easily as the 8 volt did. Thank You, C.D. Zook
