I am in the midst of restoring a 1947 DC. But the ground post has broken off on my magneto. I just want to take that cap off the back where the brushes are and solder a new post back on but I am affraid that when I take that cap off there might be some springs in there that will go flying all over the place and I won't be able to put it back together. I don't have any diagrams of what the inside of this looks like I am just assuming what is in there from other past expieriences. If any body has had one apart any advice would be appreciated. Thanks

I am restoring a 1949 DC and when my mag wouldn't fire, I decided to take it apart, fearing the same thing as you. I took it off and nothing happened.
Whew. I'm only 17 and have entered my project in a nation wide contest. I think that you can take it apart, but make sure you pay attention to every detail. Where the sprockets are lined up and things. I had to completely take mine apart and shine up the points to get a spark, and I had trouble putting it back together for the right spark. I need an oil filter cup if you have an extra lying around. A new one cost 55 dollars. if you can help, thankyou.

I'm only 21 and have restored several DC's. The mag does not have any springs when pulling the cover. You might want to look at the points and actual magnet to see if they need to be cleaned or filed.
