I have the AUTO-LITE regulator. Which post is the field connection? When you look at the coils in the box, one coil is smaller and toward the front of the tractor. That coil is wired to the post on the generator that is toward the center of the tractor. The other coil in the regulator has heavy wire and is wired to the post on the gen. that is toward the outside of the tractor. Which coil or which post is which?

First, are you sure that your generator is set up for a voltage regulator? Most SC generators were set up to use only the resister that is on the light switch as a means of controlling the generator output. The old style generators must be rewired to accept a voltage regulator.

S seriers NEVER had a light switch that controled charge rate. they used a TC-4327-E 2 charge regulator with a 3 brush generator and the later ones had a 2 brush with a VRR regulator.

I noticed that my owners manual (I have the original) and my reprint parts manual show two different types. I think the earlier version has the third brush and mine is the "adjustable" automatic type. My tractor is a '52 and I'm not sure that the gen./reg. is original but I think it is. It doesn't appear to be charging and I want to test it.
