I have a VAI and a VAC Case, 1946 and 1952. The '46 VAI has a VT 149 engine, the '52 has a VT 328. What's the difference? These numbers are on the left lower front of the engine block under the eagle. HELP!!!!

Thanks

I have a '51 VA in which I replaced the block with a '44 VAC, since the old one was too stuck and had a blown sleeve. There seems to be very minor differences in the two. The blocks for all VA series (VA,VAO,VAC,VAI,VAH,VAS) are interchangeable, as long as you don't intermix the crank caps. Continental made the engines for these tractors until '48 when Case started making their own. The continental block I acquired has soft plugs on the distributor side where the later case block does not. This really doesn't affect anything, however. The governor linkage on the same side slides in a bracket bolted to the block. There was about an inch difference in the stud/hole separation, which is easily resolved by drilling a new hole in the bracket if you don't have the one that fits. I preferred the later Case block, as it seems to be a thicker casting.

I believe that the numbers you're refering to are casting numbers. I'm not sure if there are differences in the actual engines though. I think they should both be 124 cu. inch engines. Is the older one an overhead valve engine?
