Case DC-3 - Zenith Carb

I have a 51 DC-3. I recently sent out my carb to be rebuilt (Yesterdays tractors). When it returned, I could never get it to run without almost full choke, and when it wasn't running, it dripped gas rapidly from the high-speed adjustment screw thingy on the bottom of the carb. I ultimately sent it back for rework yet when it returned, it still leaked a little from that spot. I was able to get it to idle ok and would run at high rpm but when the governonr called on it for more power, it would fall flat on its face. My question is:

If gas leaks from the high-speed adjusting thing when it's not running, then wouldn't it suck air when it's running (or at least at higher rpm)?
And. . . wouldn't that cause a mixture problem?

Thanks for your help.

Chris

I think there might be an o-ring behind the nut on the load screw. Should be a standard one you can find at most good shops.

A couple of other things you might check. If its dripping from the intake side or drain hole you might have float problems. Maybe it's stuck or there might be a pinhole in it.

The high speed adusting screw runs through a packing nut. If you tighten this up it should stop leaking. Be careful you don't over tighten it. Just enough to make it sto leaking should do it.
