I bought a '41 SC the other day and it's a dual fuel model. Anyway, someone put a toolbox on the left side and in it was an "S" shape cast pipe.It is a case part I can make out the eagle, there is a number 58152 or 58151, it's hard to read. Is this the "S" pipe some folks are looking for?.Thanks for all replies.

OK, I'm going thru the archives, and it dawns on me, the air cleaner canister was bolted to a brkt, the outlet of the air cleaner is up high, and the carb intake low, hence the S pipe, but, the exhaust manifold curves up and past the side of the hood, and in conjunction, there is a brkt that holds the air intake pipe, together with the vertical exhaust pipe, sort of like a wide spaced double barrel shotgun. Also, the air pipe is flared at the top end.Can I conclude that the dual fuel equiped tractors also used the S pipe in the air cleaner system, as with a center exhaust model?. I also have the air cleaner assy.

I just posted a picture of it in Parts & Pieces. I tried to get a good picture so you can read the casting number but we are overcast and the glare kinda whited out the number. It shows you how it is attached though.

Hope this helps.

I got a 41 SC and that s-tube is for the air cleaner. the large end goes on the aircleaner side and the small end goes on the carburetor. My casting number on mine is 5815A. It is cast iron.
I bought my tractor about 6 months ago and the tractor had never run right from the factory. The carb needles were screwed in so tight that they had broken off. After further inspection I found a star in my s-tube which was constricting air flow. I later found out that it was a polishing tumbler that some how got wedged in the tube, from the factory, and wouldn't come out. A local collector traded me out of it for one in good shape just because he thought it would make a nice conversation piece.

By the way, they are a son-of-a-gun to put on. I have found it easier to pull off the air cleaner.

Hope this helps,
Morgan

Hi Chuck,

I looked in my parts manual, and can't find anything close to the numbers you list.

My first thought is that it might be a "tube, air cleaner to carburetor" - part #05774AB. The early type air cleaners had their outlet up high, and a Z-shaped tube was needed to get down to the carburetor level. The later types had their outlets down low, and the air tube was replaced by a straight rubber hose. I've never seen any of these type air cleaners- but I always assumed that the pipes were like a steel muffler pipe, and not cast iron.

My second thought was that it was an exhaust manifold elbow (since you said it was cast iron and had a flange mount.) The SC elbow is "S" shaped (sort of) - but it's part # A5627A.

Sorry I can't be of any help. Maybe you could post a photo?

Good luck, -Schotte

Mike, no it does not have a flange mount, it looks a though it could be an air breather connector of some sort.I'll post a photo of it tomorrow.I don't believe it's part of the cooling system.i.e. lower radiator pipe. It's got my curiosity up.My ser.# is 4503412, and it's dual fuel, and the exhaust, air intake are out the side.

Mike, thanks for the photo, and how about that, it's what I have too. Can't figure how an S pipe could be in a tool box of a side exhausted, side air intaked tractor. It's a dual fuel with an outside manifold setup, small warmup tank in center of hood approx. where the exhaust would come thru.Could it be a rare factory conversion? Also anybody need this pipe?

The RC had a s shaped exhaust coming off the manifold. I am not sure if the early SC's did with the center exhaust. Does it have a 4 bolt mount??

No, no mounting flange, one side of the "S", is approx. 1 1/4 dia., and the opposite side is approx. 1 3/4 dia., I'm thinking it was for the air intake not exhaust.
