I was looking at 2 DC4's yesterday side by side in my neighbor's scrapyard, 1 is about 1942 and one is a 1946, the older one appears to have cast front rims or possibly wheel weights because of 3 bolts surounding the "case" hub. What are these because the '46 model has a smooth dished out design with a protruding "case" hub.Any thoughts? Thankyou.

Dan, I believe those earlier D's have a cast rim.

I know of at least two different front wheel setups for the D series. One has a cast hub that has a steel rim attached to it with bolts and tighteners (for want of a better term). The other setup is a complete cast wheel that bolts to the hub with three bolts. The cast wheel setup is much heavier and was used on DC3's, and DC4's with the Eagle hitch to offset the weight of implements. I have been told that the extendable front axle has a different setup, but I don't know if that is correct or not. Our D has the first front wheels mentioned and our DC3 and DC4's have the second option mentioned and they are all 1953 models.
