Well I'm putting my DC back together and I've got a part that I don't know where it goes or if it even belongs in the engine. It's a pin 5/16th by 1 1/2 in. long. I can't remember if the part was in the bottom of the oil pan or in the timing cover. It's not the button that sits inside the cam shaft. If anyone has an idea what it is I'd sure like to know. The tractor hasn't run in 20 years so who knows what it is? Also there's a VAC wide front at a auction in cental Mn. It looks pretty good in the picture. [www.lampiauction.com]

The pin should be loose in the crank. It controls the amount of oil that goes through that passage to lubricate the clutch. It is unique to Case engines with a wet clutch (the clutch runs in oil). Oil is returned to the crancase via the trough in the bell housing that catches the oil that slings of the flywheel.

Dale, It goes in the rear of the crankshaft, before the pilot bearing goes in.

Bruce thanks for the reply. Now the next dumb question, what does it do. I have two crank shafts the one I'm using has the pin in already but it seems to be frozze in the crank. Do you know if it should float in the crank or be solid in the crank? I don't think I've ever seen them in any other type of engines!
