Well looks like I MIGHT be selling the VC....Too little funds....too big of thoughts...here is the current situation as of july 23rd 2002:

1.) I owe 400 bucks to grandparents for buying tractor, grandfather farms with Case and is happy I like Case too.

2.)I need to pay for drivers education 200-400 bucks

3.)The VC is not running due to the need of a severe electrical tune-up it was running but it needs work. What could I possibly get for this tractor? I love this tractor but I need to money (sobs) Any of you others have the same problem(s)? I don't know what to do, but I am in debt and I need to get my license.....

Darren, I would love the tractor but would have to trade my VC to get something else..I already have a truck to drive...a 1986 ford ranger (american only for me) oh well. Any of you out by IL? I would love to meet more collectors. Hopefully this fall I can drive to the J.I. Case collectors convention, I went to one I believe the 2001 spring convention, didn't see anyone my age (16) so if any of you plan on any IL shows or the convention let me know, I would love to meet more people! -Brad Wies

mj speaks from experience and my advice is to heed his advice.
Now, with that said, when the time comes that you want to step up from that VC, you let me know.

Les, I actually traded my DC-4 to get this VC from a man that uses this board. The only other tractor I would like is a 300 or 400 series, but no one wants to trade those, I need a more modern powerhouse.

I didn't realize the situation...my opinion, keep the tractor. I'm just going for my licence next week I know what you're going through! But I know how sentimental tractors/vehicles and above all, farms can be. So do what the others say and keep the tractor. Darren

A possible solution: Ask grandpa for help with fixing electrical problems, including $. Get job. Drive tractor to work- no license required. Pay off grandparents. Then work on license. When all $ are paid off, and you still have job, can afford license, drivers ed, chasing girls.

It would definately be worth more in running condition than not, maybe up to twice as much. If it's only electrical it won't be that expensive a fix. Are you mandated to take drivers ed where you're at? In the old days the school put on drivers ed and it was free thru the schools. If you've been around tractors awhile you should have no trouble with the driving test. But if I were you I'd keep Grampa happy and keep the old Case and get her running like a top...he'd sure be proud of you. Money problems have a way of working out and you're from from bankrupcy hearings. Six figure debt is a whole different story. Use some old Farmer logic on your problem...improvise and make it work...

I know my debt isn't big, but drivers ed is mandatory and I have to be in the classroom 30 hours to get my license, I have over 300+ hours on my permit and due to mowing the lawn so many years and the tractor and everything else I know I am better than some drivers on the road, heck I have pulled gravity boxes down the highway in the 1st month I had my permit with no problems. If it were my choice I would work for a farmer, but since I live out in the boon docks of Illinois, driving to a job would take 2 hours or so! I just don't like the feeling of oweing people money. For my choice I would be driving around a 1950 ford pickup with something with agriculture painted on the side. Modern schooling isn't all the hype, my shcool won't even let me go 1 town over to take agriculture class! That really let me down, I tell the counseler I plan on majoring in agriculture and minoring in mechanics of small engines or so. "Nope, we don't want kids leaving this school to attend another one for a certain class" That really made me mad, I could have gotten out of ag class and visited my grandparents everyday, talk about a big let down! I want the VC to run as it needs points, coil, condensor, plugs, wires and that is it. It has the original 6 volt + ground and it spins the motor over GREAT! I am a strong beliver in 6 volt now! I really don't want to get rid of it, I would much rather restore it and take it to shows that I attend with my grandfather, then maybe do his 400 300 utillity and so on. But since he was diagnosed with alzheimers (I think that is how you spell it?) and it looks like he is not going to farm anymore. I would love to take operations over in a few years and take residence of the house, it would really mean something to me to become the 6th generation the run the farm. The house I would take was for the hired hands when my great-great-grandfather ran operations, the original farm house is right down the road. I know it is hard to make a living farming anymore, even more so if I took over my grandfathers 400 acres. But I really believe some people find their calling early, I just think mine is farming. Thanks for the input guys!-Brad

I remember a time in the '60s when I was visiting my Grandma about a year after my Grandpa had passed away. His '53 Ford sedan was still there and she said I could have it if I wanted it. It would've required tires and a towbar to get it the 1000+ miles back to my place and another day or two travel time, I would have to call my employer and get more leave time, it would take more gas for the tow vehicle..... .etc., etc. Today, I can see that I could have made it happen....today, in my mind's eye, I can see the old Ford sitting in the shop...all shiny and ready to "take a spin out into the wild blue yonder" (G'pa speak for "let's go for a ride") BUT I let the moment pass by. Keep the Case, you'll find a way! Sincerely, mj
