Can anyone tell me what the number on the block behind the carb. is for? Mine says 12 23. I thought that maybe it was the date that it was cast. How many SC's were built in 1942?

Thanks, Lucas Delcamp

My 1945 SC says "10.26" on the block in the place you described. So I'm guessin' you're right about that being the date it was cast? Anybody know if Case date-marked their blocks?

The Case Tractor Buyer's Guide quotes 5,000 SC built in 1942...

If the date is right, then shouldn't my serial number be close to 5000 if they stopped making 42's near the end of the year?

No, Lucas, because they most likely cast the BLOCK well before the date they built your TRACTOR. In other words, they made the blocks sometime beforehand and had them waiting to be used in the assembly line. So if the 12.23 means your block was cast on December 23, my guess would be it was cast on Dec. 23, 1941 rather than 1942, especially if your serial # is well below the 5,000 SC's they were s'posed to have made in '42. Does this make sense to you?
