I have purchased a case 220 garden tractor. It has a 12 hp kohler engine with a starter/generator. I cannot get it to charge and I am wondering if maybe the wiring is wrong. The generator is putting out but not running or charging the tractor. The regulator has 4 leads. A,B,L,F It has a 4 post solenoid also. The leads on the generator are F and A. I need help making sure the wires are going where they are supposed to.

I had an Allis with a similar system but only 3 wires to the regulator. I think the letters are self explanatory, that is b goes to the battery, a to the a terminal on the generator (that's the armature, f is the field terminal on the generator, but I don't know what the L is. If the wiring looks right and the generator will crank the engine, I'd suspect the regulator.
