I've continued to add Marvel Mystery Oil to the fuel to my tractors. That's a '49 LA Case and a '47 Ford 2N. My Grandfather used it since the tractors were new and I find that it also extends the life of spark plugs too, especially if I use the higher octane fuel at the pump. The sheds where my Grandfather kept the tractors still have a few cans of the MM Oil sitting on the sill plates. Just follow the directions on the bottle for gasoline. I think it's about 4oz per 10 gal.

When working on any old tractor i always install hardned valve seats. You can burn any gas and not worry about your valves.

I have heard from a reliable source that if an engine was run for several years with leaded gas, the lead deposits have embedded themselves in the metal [valves and valve seats] through the extreme temperatures and pressures of a running engine, and runing them on lead free gas will do no harm to them. I just wonder if doing a valve job grinds away all the protection?

Lead additive is available at most gas stations / farm parts outlets. I think it's well worth using it.

So, for a 22-gal tank how much oil would you recommend?
