Looking at a Case 440 down the road. Can anyone tell me a bit about these tractors and what to be watching for?

About the only weak spot on this tough little tractor is the front engine mounts to the front axle support. If the tractor has been used with a loader, they sometimes break the mount ears.Many loader installations used a steel plate bolted to the clutch housing forward to the front axle support.
One other thing to check it the piston seals in the Eagle Hitch lift cylinder. This allows hydraulic oil to escape into the transmission and rear axle... Gene

Thanks for the information. I have been looking for a solid 3 pt hitch tractor for the past few years and all I can find at a resonable price is old 8N's and 9N's. I hope the Case is still around this weekend.
