I just finished dissasembling the engine out of our 63 830 Case. It spun a rod brg.- First time it has ever done that since new, and I have put at least 3 sets in it over the years. Last work that was done on it, My brother got someone else to do it, cause I was busy . Anyway- when I was taking the pistons off the rods I notice that one of the rods must have been changed in it, because it is a smoother forging. Upon closer inspection I noticed that although they all have the same part # on them,A24425 the original 3 rods have a large #6 (faint) stamped on the rod near the throw end , while the other one has a small "B" embosssed on it. Its obvious the rods are not identical so I decided to check them for balance. The newer style rod(Guessing) is 87 grams lighter than the average of the other 3 at the throw end . Do not install one of these rods by itself as was done in this engine. With that much weight diff.its lucky the vibs didn't break the crank, but now I know why a sleeve started leaking. On a four cyl. engine you can get away with installing 2 in cyls. side by side ( not center two cyl) so the light rods will counterbalance each other etc. On a six cyl 930-1030 you will have to put in three at a time- front three or back three. I came across the same problem before in the D282 Int. engine but its the first time I've seen it in Cases . I assume the same rods are used from 730-1030.
