Okay...I give up (VAI? questions)

I posted a week or two ago regarding a tractor I just picked up. I think it's a VAI, but don't know for sure since the nameplate is missing off the dash. In my post, I asked if anyone knew where to look for other numbers, such as the engine model number that might be stamped into the block. I got a lot of wonderful reponses to my post....but no answers as to where to look for engine model numbers and stuff like that. So I guess I'll ask again - does anyone know where to look for identifying numbers on the engine block, transmission, etc?

Other questions....
The engine is stuck, so I'm pulling the head off to try to get the thing freed up. The valve cover had two bolts holding it on, plus a third longer bolt that went through the valve cover, through some spacers, and into the head's water jacket. What's that for?

The push rods go through "tubes" that are on the outside of the head. The head studs are interspersed between those tubes. I have managed to get all of the head nuts loose, but it was a bear working around those tubes. Any secrets? This is the first head of this type I've worked with - all of the other engines I'm familiar with had the push rods go through the body of the head.

There is an electrical sensor on the left-hand side of the engine block, a little below the carburetor. What's that for? The temp sendor is in the head, and the oil pressure line is nonexistant. There is a plug in the oil filter that may have been used for the oil pressure tap, but I can't be sure on that. The oil pressure gauge is a mechanical gauge, not electrical, and probbly doesn't work anyway.

I know this is little info to go on, but perhaps someone is playing around with a similar tractor and has come up against some of these things.

Thanks in advance-
Brent
