Can anyone tell me how to test a temperature guage and its sender unit using a multi tester?
Is the temp guage just measuring current flow (amp meter)? Is the sender unit a varying resistor controlled by heat. I need advise on how to check these 2 units because one or both are not functioning.

Thanks Guys for the info. I had momentarily grounded the wire to the sender unit and the guage did nothing so guess it is the guage. Leon

Hello,
The way I tested a factory gauge on my truck was to put a fixed resistor in place of the sending unit between the connecting wire to ground. (Mine was a one wire) I started with a 1000 ohm if it didn't read go to a lower one like a 500, then a 250, then 100. One of those should work in making the gauge read. Ignition needs to be on. On the sending unit you can check the resistance from ground or chassie to the post of the sender, with a cold engine the resistance should be high as the engine warms up it should change. Lower. Mark
