I am in the process of restoring a VAC for my son, and have stumbled onto a small problem. The Vac we have has a MS TSX-690 carb on it. Now I am aware that this is the wrong carb for the tractor, but I was wondering will it work for now. It seems as if the governor linkage may be reversed. Any knowledgeable and correct help would be appriciated.

Thanks in Advance

I've found that almost any of those MS or Zenith carbs work equally well on any tractor that will accept the stud size of the carb. I often test out a carb by bolting it to another tractor. Meanwhile, many of those carbs can be "reversed" with the throttle or choke shafts. If you are lucky, the carb might already be drilled on both sides (with one side plugged with a brass cap), otherwise thay can be drilled out to work opposite directions. Mind you, the throttle and choke arm often has to be changed too (they are usually pinned or flanged in place). Things like throttle stops, etc. also have to be changed. If everything is on the correct side already but the governor is pushing or pulling the wrong way, then just extend the throttle shaft lever down (or up) by fabricating and the governor will do what it's supposed to. Sure is a lot cheaper than buying a new carb.
