This is a 1973 Case 680 backhoe with a 4cy diesel. It has been strating and running well. Then it started getting hard to start ie(usually when in neutral and I turn the key there is a clicking sound.(i would assume the glowplugs or something)"I'm showing my ignorance of a diesel here".) However, the sound stopped happening and the tractor has gotten progressively harder to start. N0w, engine tries to start and turns over, but willln't keep running. ) what I've tried so far is the to clean the air filter"and yes, it was dirty", I've also verifed and moved the neutral bar on the trans as far forward as it will go and this has not helped." Any other suggestions before repair person shows up next week that I can try would be greatly appreciated.
Thank you
Eric

Have you checked the fuel filters? Also, I live in Western New York and it's been getting pretty cold at night (sometimes down to 30 degrees ). Diesel will thicken (gel) at lower temps. My two cents. Good luck.
