I have a 1030 case. It blew the top radiator hose. I replaced both top and bottom hoses. Now when you run the tractor the top hose gets really hard and bulges out. If you start the diesel engine with the radiator cap off and you look down in the radiator, the antifreeze is moving. what could be the possible problem. Any help would be appreciated. thanks.

I took the heads off. I do not see anything bad with the head gaskets or the heads. How do you tell if the sleeves are bad. I have three cylinders that are wet and one sleeve that has a little rust in it towards the top.

I would agree its probably the sleeves letting go a bit. If you run the radiator cap loose, you can get by a while, if you are not working it hard. We planted all our corn one year with it that way, once it starts blowing a lot of water out you will have to tear it down. We never had any anti freeze get in the oil, just usually would get the compression in the radiator. The first time it happened we put a used set of sleeves in the set under the one head and ran quite a while that way until it happened again. If its just used for light work you should be able to get by. Just a poor mans point of view.

The sleeves in 1030's have a stress relief groove just below the top flange. If that groove is square cut, metal fatigue will cause it to crack. TRW cuts a radius stress relief groove that doesn't crack.

Either cracked head(s) or blown head gasket (if you're lucky) LOL!
