Good morning.

We just recently bought a Case VA. We were wondering what kind of mower we could get for it and where (and approximately how much)? We are located in Ontario but any ideas on which companies I could contact and what I could ask for would be appreciated...

Chris

I have a 53 VAI and use a 5ft King Cutter mower to mow retired ag fields. The problem with the PTO will be that when you push in the clutch, the momentum of the mower blade will keep the tractor moving forward via the PTO. I added a $33.00 PTO clutch to ensure this does not happen. Otherwise, no problems. Tractor does everything I've ever asked it to do.

I have a '48 VAC with a 5' Sun Mart mower(better set up than Woods in my opinion) It does an excellent job of mowing. Yes, no live power, but I have a tendency to mow like I would in a field. (large yard and few trees). Works well and does a better finish than my 46" lawn tractor. I will admit, mowing around trees is a pain, not because of the live power, but no power steering.

Hey everyone,

Based on my serial number, my tractor is a 1949 Case VA (nothing else after that) and I have confirmed that the hitch is an Eagle hitch.

Would that Woods Belly Mower still work with the eagle hitch now that everything has a 3pt hitch?

Chris

The Woods (Model L59 VAC-1) is designed to work with the eagle hitch. The only direct connection to the eagle hitch is a chain hooked around one draft arm to provide lift.

If you are planning on mowing your yard this may not be the best tool. I use mine to mow some small pastures and a neighbors field 3-5 acres each with few obstructions. This is not the tool for your front yard as you can only trim closely on one side and the ag tires are a bit rough on a smooth lawn if it is soft. The lack of a live PTO and the relatively hard steering is not such a big deal in more open setting. If you have an eagle hitch you have live hydraulics. If your yard has trees and shrubs get a Lawn tractor or Zero turn....

Hi Again everyone,

I just had the following email from someone....

" If you are thinking of using your Case VA to mow, it may not be as useful as you think. It doesn't have "live" power. This mean that when you push the clutch in the PTO will stop. This also means you mower will stop or at least it will only be spinning freely, not driven by the tractor. Also the hydraulics won't be live. This means that when you push the clutch in you won't be able to lift the loader without putting it in neutral and letting the clutch out again. "

For all you Case VA people out there - Is this TRUE? will it not mow my lawn?

Chris

I have a 5ft Woods belly mount mower on mine. Does a very nice job. Getting the belt adjusted is critical. I ate one up and the belt is $80.
I think woods may have planned on discontinuing the VAC mounting kit...you should check with your dealer. Also the instructions claim you can reconnect your drawbar after installation....you can't.

I have also used my New Holland 3pt 930 6ft finish mower. That is a bit much for her if the grass is heavy and you are going up hill, but other wise no problems
