Case VAC Clutch

Hi all

I finally broke my 1949 Case VAC tractor in half to fix the clutch.

It went well except I cannot figure out how to remove the clutch release bearing and/or the clutch release yoke.

It appears from the parts schematics that the yoke is retained by a 3/8" nut but I sure can"t see it.

Anyone been there to advise me how it is done?

I also wonder if it is recommended to replace the pilot bushing along with the clutch, pressure plate and throwout bearing?

Thanks

Thanks olddog. It is clear now. I had even noticed the flats on the standoff stud and it shows a lockwasher in the schematic! I am ashamed to admit that for some reason it didn't occur to me to unscrew it from the bellhousing.

I'll follow your advice jal-SD. I was however happily suprised that splitting the tractor wasn't a big deal.

Imagine the clutch release arm stud as a ball/socket. The standoff stud unscrews from the front of the bell housing and comes off with the yoke arm and bearing.

Yes, you need to replace the pilot bushing, they always need to come out when you are in there. The relatively small cost of a bushing is nothing compared to the cost and the trouble to take it apart again. If its even just a little wore or rough, it'll make a lot of undesirable noises when you have done all the other work. (My $0.02 worth. jal-SD)

Darn It

I cannot find the bushing.

I ordered all the rest of the parts from Yesterdays Tractors.

I don't know what this Yesterdays Tractors item is? Pilot Bearing - For Model: VAC. (Part No: 508051)

Can anyone offer some help finding the bushing?

Thank You
