drove the 430 diesel over to the barn in 4th low and yanked the verticle hand clutch lever and left her in gear running at low throttle (THANK GOD ). hoped off the clutch side to get the gate,,,,,AND , THE HANDCLUTCH LEVER RAN UP MY SIDE UNDER MY UNBUTTONED JACKET ,at this time 430 lurched forward and stopped against a railroad tie still running all the while with me trying to get my coat away from the durned lever , lUCKILY CLUTCH NEVER FULLY ENGAGED , SHE moved a good 10 ft with myself remaining upright thru it all .. I am 51 now , and hope to use this tractor another 30 years , UNLESS i DO THAT AGAIN .., these things happen so fast , Be careful , jim

Jim, you are an extremely lucky man...we could just as easily be reading on here of your untimely demise! I once had a similar occurence w/ my 930 CK equipped w/ a hand clutch. While jumping off my unbuttoned coat caught the hand clutch. Fortunatly, my feet were still on the steps when the tractor lurched forward and I was able to quickly get back up on the platform, and disengage the clutch. Thanks for the timely reminder of the need for caution at all times. Glad you survived to tell about it.

I have told this story before, but one time when I was a kid I was driving the SC and Dad was standing on the drawbar - I was about seven years old. I we pulled up to the new, wide galvenized 16' gate Dad reached up from behind me and pulled back on the throttle instead of the clutch. We knocked the gate down and drove right over it, but did not get hurt. Another time a few years ago with my SC I was standing behind it and wanted to check the PTO to see if working. I forgot that it was in reverse and I almost pinned myself against the garage. I started putting it neutral when I got off after that! Be careful - the old toys are fun but they will bite!
