I took the tin off of a 970 to touch up. In putting the hood back on it fits fine in front, over the air pipe, muffler and radiator pipe...But it is 6 inches too long in front. I assume that the fibreglass front for the grill has to mobve forward some but it seems pretty rigid. What I am not doing ???

Thanks

Is this the same tin that you took off of the tractor, or did it come from a different tractor. What about the fiberglass front was it removed or is it from a different tractor. I am wondering if you are trying to put a 970 hood on a 770 or 870. 770/870 are 4 cylinder and 970 is 6 cylinder which makes the hood one cylinder head longer.

Here are pics of each, notice the difference in distance between the front and rear side panels.

I looked at the grill cover its held in placve by 4 @ 1 1/4 " bolts very rigid. It won't move without removing the bolts. No springs, no apparent way for the grill cover to go forward or back by itself, yet it is the verticle (straight position) when your pictures show the top should be leaning forward.

Hood came off the same tractor. I can see from your pictures that the front grill angles forward when the hood is in place.. Mine without the hood is straight. I assume that I have to loosen the grill up to install the hood and allow the grill to angle forward.

Thanks
