Who says that the eagle hitch was a bad idea. I see knock-offs of it all the time to convert your Ferguson/Ford type 3pt to an eagle hitch type mechanism. (<:

a typical Case attempt, rigid arms were good at destroying 494 planter hitches, and who was the moron who made the 3rd link go over the pto? It lifted a plow , cult ect. but is a poor excuse in my opinion, I would take a 3pt. on my Olivers or a comfort king anyday, saying that I have a 61 830 with eh.

I agree that the Eagle Hitch was an improvement to the 3-point hitch system. I still think that IH's Fast Hitch still has them all beat. It's too bad that IH wouldn't sell the rights for JD and others to use it.
