I have acquired a Case 1170 and have a few questions for you all. This tractor has hydraulic disc brakes and I am wondering what the proper way of bleeding them out is. The right brake will grab and hold real good, but the left goes to the floor. The tractor has set since last summer so that may have something to do with it. Also, this tractor seems to steer awfully hard. Is this kinda the nature of the beast or is there a pressure relief that can be set up. It has 9 weights across the front, also could be contributing to the problem. It appears that there used to be a bushing around the rear pivot pin on the front axle, is this correct? This one seems to have fallen out and is very sloppy and wearing into rear bracket for the front axle. Is there any issues to look for on these tractors? It took awhile to figure out the shift pattern as the decal has faded away with time, is this available anywhere aftermarket, or through Case? The engine oil pressure gauge isn't working either, is there a way to check it by tapping into the block? Any help is greatly appreciated. Thanks!!

The 70 series power brake tractors have a pressure present in the brake system anytime the engine is running. you can simply open the bleeder and bleed it without help as long as the engine is running. The same for 90-94 series. mEl

Thanks for the info! I got the tractor running this morning and hitched it to the 6 bottom plow and am planning to bring it home over lunch hour. I will try and bleed the brake first before I go. I got to looking and see that there for sure is no bushing for the axle so I will need to get one. All the tie rod ends are also loose, so this out to be an interesting 10 mile ride home. Is the oil pressure gage a electric gage or does it just run a line up to it. I looked behind the starter and found a line coming out of a compression fitting and running under the dash. It is covered with a clear hose. I figure that it is just plugged. The gage is stuck right between the red and green line and does not drop when engine is off. I have always been a MM guy, but am starting to like this tractor. There is an awful lot of similarities between the two companies. This tractor compares alot to my G950 or G1000.

If you have a adjustible front the bushing is avaible-no is -a61357.You can go to CNH web site an see part no an diagram of all parts. You need serial to get correct diagram.Neighbor has1170 an to bleed brake there is a bleed screw close to brake. Need someone to push brake while engine runs an bleed till no bubbles. Also there is a self adjusting mechnisim on brake i think . It will have a knurled groves on part of it -make sure it is not rusted fast You can turn by hand -just keep enough free play on brakes. There are 2 types of adjusters on them i think so really need serial no to be sure. On right side of engine close to starter should be sender of oil pressure . It will have single wire an you can remove an put in a gage.Steering is somewhat stiff on them.Try to find your parts diagram on case web site as i do not have your serial no.

Sounds like a pleasant job coming up. Just a couple suggestions . Fehr Manufacturing phone 815-692-3355 has new interiors for your Case. They are origional makers of interiors if interested.$234 Also since you will need some of its power you might want to remove nylon fuel line from tank at injection pump an see if you have full flow of fuel there -i f not you can blow back with air an clean off pencil filter in tank at bottom at outlet. You can also remove it an discard. It is at bottom of tank in shut off valve.Filter in glass bowl on injection pump can also be cleanedAn like most knobs on your controls are probably loose an after you are certain all controllsare working you can seat them in plastic steel at threads. You check trans an hyd oil at left side on 2 glass sight glass. They are threaded in trans an neighbor very carefully removed his an cleaned them to be able to see them better. Woul not do it unless had so a spare case i broke 1 . Also hyd filter is on right side at bottom of battery .There is a releaf valve in bottom of filter you need to keep an put in new one. I think you will be very happy with tractor when you have it tuned. They are tough tractors.
