Ok....I'm thinking of converting my 49 LA from a 6V to a 12V. Any thoughts on this? Any suggestions of what would be a good 12V generator to find and use?

You ask "Any thoughts on this?" If you have the proper size clean battery cables, a good battery, and your ignition system is kept in good working order ie. points, plugs, wires, etc., the system will perform superbly. You should ask yourself; What reasons should/would I need to change over to 12 volts? Is it because I have special needs for a 12 volt system? A couple of considerations when switching to 12 volts; I have seen systems that had been changed over for awhile, have rebuilt the starter, and observed that the ring gear and starter components have really taken a beating. The resale value, from a collector's standpoint will be higher if it is an original system.

Easy get an early Chevy pickup 12 volt generator voltage reg. and then change them with the 6 volt. If you change the polarity like I did the change the wires on the Ampmeter. Use the same starter but change the bulbs in the lights I go some that were the same type and move the locking plate to them they come off easy with a solding iron. This is one of the easiest tractors to convert. I to do mine because of the high compression head that I put on.

If you look in the Research and Info. under Articles on this web site, there may still be some good 12 volt conversion articles in there.
