Well this afternoon I finally had my LA ready for its first test drive! It fired right up and had itself a good time drivin around the farm yard. This is the first time that this tractor has ran and drove in at over 20 years. I had fun drivin it around and tryin out the gears. As you can see from the photos it is a currently very multi colured. It is a combination of my parts tractor that was orange and this tractor that somebody painted cat yellow. Add in the rusty parts and the parts like the radiator that was sandblasted and primered and you have a pretty ugly mix. Once I get the all the mechanical work done I plan to sandblast and paint it. I also included a before photo from about 4 years ago of the tractor as I found it. Get the old girl out and drivin really makes me want to get it finished and hooked up to a disk or plow and blowin some smoke!

Well nothing like working on a tractor and taking it out for a drive. Did just what you did yesterday. Took it out for a nice drive around. My sheet metal is off mine and I am working on it to! But sure was fun driving it around.

Hey thanks a bunch everybody for all the nice comments. Not that I am out here seeking praise but it does help to know that your work is appreacieated! Thanks also for all the help you guys have given me over the last 4 years on this project. SDLars mine also has the hydrolic brakes and that is the last major thing that I have not fixed yet. I have read several posts on this site on the subject and it sounds like it will be a chore removing the hubs. I read one time that somebody recomended losening the big nuts and then driving real slow and carefull to try and pop the hubs loose on the tapered shafts. I thought I would try this befor going to the work to make a puller. Alan Golden good luck on gettin your LA back toghether. I would love to see it! Thanks again for all the help folks!

Hey Kid!
Thanks for bringing another piece of history back to life! That LA is beautiful regardless of the paint job. Don

Looks great! Does yours have hydraulic or differential brakes? I have a 49 and a 51, one of each. If yours has the hydraulic type, did you wind up taking them apart? What kind of experience did you have?

Congratulations! I'm glad you were able to save it from the junkman. I have 4 Case SC's that I saved from the junk man. Three of them are running now, but the paint doesn't look all that great on them either.

Great job on getting the LA running! I"m putting the radiator back on mine today, then hoping to get the magneto timed. Hopefully by late afternoon I will have mine up and running again. I know it brings a good feeling to your heart to put forth all the effort and see one of these great old machines start running again.

I like it! When you get finished everytime you walk by or fire it up a smile will come to your face.

Looks like you are progressing well, your color combinations look somewhat like my 630 Case except I have desert sunset thrown in too. All of us reading this understand your current color scheme is just a means to an end!! Have fun with the ole girl, I am green with envy when I retire and get my shop built in a year or so I will be looking for an LA to restore. Dad had one when I was a small child so the LA has a special place in my heart.

Thanks for sharing your story. I enjoy seeing old tractors snatched from the junk man and given new life. Over the years, I have dragged home and restored a WD Allis, C Case, D Case, 656 IH, 3 DC Cases, and an L Case. Most of all, it is refreshing to see young people with ambition and purpose. Good luck and God bless.

Should look & run great when you get it completed.
I purchased a 2nd hand LA in 1971 owned it until 99, drove a saw bench with it until it was sold.
paid $300 for it sold it for $900, didn't have to
spend much on while i owned it.
