R/S Footpedal on 310 industrial

I have a '57 Model 310 industrial with front loader.There is a round footpedal on the R/S footrest below the brake pedals. It has no rod on it, but looks like it may have connected to the throttle linkage somehow. What is it? Where does it connect to and what does it do? How imporant is it? My first tractor, so any help would be appreciated.

Yes it is a foot throttle. When using the loader, the speed of the tractor can be varied with the foot throttle leaving one hand free to operate the loader valves and the other for steering.

It is particularly helpful when working in a confined area and other instances in which you would otherwise be riding the clutch to vary speed.
