My tractor was running fine today. When I turned it off it would not start. Think my carb is not shutting down the fuel when off. But the problems was when my friend and his tractor went to pull me to start it. No matter what gear I was in. The motor would not turn over?? Went to low side and even first gear. But would not turn motor over. I think I have a weak clutch perhaps but don't know this for sure. Can it be adjusted the clutch?

If you do indeed have a hydraulic lock from flooding, be careful. My 300 round nose flooded one time because the float stuck. The motor would not turn over. It was like the starter was locked up. It was sitting where I could roll it off. When the motor started turning, it must have spewed a quart of gas out the exaust all over me. Wet me with gas like a rainstorm. Fortunately there was not any loose sparks or I would have probably gone up in flames, along with the tractor.

Your hand clutch discs are probably slipping. Lever should have approx 50 lb overcenter resistance.

Put some tension on the lever in the forward position, if that helps you need to adjust the clutch pack.

Seems like I got only an inch of clutch at the top end????? Will pull tractor after it started but sure would not turn motor over in pull.

let some free travel into the pedal, lengthen the rod that goes into the bell kousing and see what happens, read my other post again

Here is what I found out. in reply to mEl, 03-05-2008 18:35:31
My tranny is a triple range making it 12 forward. Reading up , I found the case o matic came out in the 400B tractors of 58 and not the 300B. My tractor is a 300B type. So must be the clutch and have been able to get out and work on it. To dang cold and I don't have nothing but a canopy top over it. ... Thanks for the info

Will the starter turn it over?? If not pull the plugs and try the starter. It may have filled a cylinder with gas and hyd. locked on you. Also are you sure you have a good spark?? If its flooding you can turn the gas off at the tank then try to start it and once it starts turn the gas back on.

Pull the plugs out, if the cylinders are full of gas it won't turn over!! It has a hydraulic lock because a liquid will not compress. Please disable the ignition system while you are working on it as a spark with gas spraying out of the cylinders is a recipe for disaster. If the fuel not shutting off and the not turning over happened at the same time this is most likely the cause, keep us posted. To tow it to turn it over the highest gear would be better, low gears will just slide the tires if all else is good, if the clutch is good enough to do work with , it should start by towing in the proper gear. The clutch pedal should have an inch and a half travel before it feels like it hits the throwout bearing and gets hard to push. If it does not , it will slip. If no free travel, lengthen the rod that goes into the bell housing till it has the proper amount.
