I notice one said that the 58 case had a positive ground? Is this correct? How do I see this on my tractor?

More info given on this in reply to Larry59, 03-04-2008 16:58:55
When I took the old dash out of the tractor. I just assumed it was = and - like my car. Did not see it hooked cause I had help and he took battery out for me.
I did notice on the generator that I had to the gauge hot on both sides yet generator was not going?

why would you want to. the 6 volt system is designed as pos. grnd.thats the way its supposed to be.dont have to reinvent the wheel.i dont see your logic.there is a reason for pos. grnd. electolosis, antifreeze, sleeves and pitting.

'58 311B was factory pos gnd. If it hasn't been changed, the pos post cable will be connected to the tractor frame and the neg post cable to the starter solenoid.

Properly wired for pos gnd, the coil (-) terminal should be wired to the ignition switch and the (+) terminal to the distributor. It will run either way, just better in most cases with the same polarity as the battery.
