My dad traded in his s.c. in1957 for a new 300 gas. Diesel engine was made by Continental Motors of Muskegon Mi.Kept the 300 until 1972 when I traded it on a 470.In my opinion the 300 was a V.A.C.14 with a speeded up engine(1750) R.P.M. and a geared down tranny(tripple Range) and then they slapped on some bigger rear tires.

Allan , You Have Rare 1957 300 Diesel , Cherish it, As others have pointed out , 600 series were 6 cylindar , sometime before 57 Case Serial # system Did not begin with model and #, as in DC568790 for a 51 DC Case Apparantly these # plates could be consecutive for the smallest tractor to the largest .. First digits have nothing to do with model #

Below is a link to a service manual for sale on Ebay. The I&T manuals aren't the best, but they aren't bad for the price. I think you can still buy a service manual for that tractor directly from CaseIH.

If it is a 300 round nose diesel, it will be a 1957 model 301.

Click on the link for Nebr Lab hp test on a 301. 1957, test #614 (there is a typo, 2 #614 tests).

The 600 round nose series diesel is 6 cyl with 3 cylinder heads.

300 series diesel is 4 cyl with 1 cylinder head.

If you do indeed have the triple range 300, you will love it.

I have one, and it is a daily working unit. Someday when I am old, I like to think that it will be as nice as Roger H's.

I have a 40 acre hobby beef operation. It does all I need, moves snow, carries large round bales, runs my 5' mower, etc.

There are ALOT of ownere here that give GREAT advice. Do as they say. Mine is still 6 volt, always start, runs great, etc.

In 58 they changed the style of front ends on the tractor. Went from round nose to a more boxy nose with head lights in it. This accord in the middle of the year.

I LOOKED UP THE MODEL 601 BUT THERE IS NO MENTION OF THAT I MODEL SEARCH .THE MAN I BOUGHT TRACTOR FROM ALWAYS CALLED IT 300. I WAS THINKING MAYBE HOOD WAS WRONG BUT IN LOOKING AT 300S ONLNE THEY LOOK ALIKE BUT NO ONE HAS A DIESEL LISTED TO COMPARE TO. THEN WHEN LOOKING AT HOOD THAT IS NOT INSTALLED ON TRACTOR THE MOUNTING IS CORRECT ALONG WITH MUFFLER LOCATION HOLE IN HOOD . THEN LOOKING MORE CLOSELY I NOTICE THAT SOME PICTURES LISTED THEY ARE CALLING TRIPLE RANGE WHICH FOLLOWS THAT DESIGN.ONE THING I DO KNOW IS THAT I DO HAVE A CASE TRACTOR THAT WORKS GREAT MAY BE SOMEONE CAN HELP THANKS

One has to watch the hood showing what it is. I for one bought what I thought was a 530 case. Hood shows it! But in real I got a 311-B tractor. This happen recently.
