Working on my 830 diesel.I have some small air bubbles in the radiator and a small amount of antifreeze in the oil.no oil in water.Block sealer slowed it down but didn't stop it.Attempting to find the leak I pulled the precombustion chambers and it still had some bubbles. Then I ran it without the water manifold and fan belt and found it bubbled around number 4.Pulled the head (again,I had just replaced the rings and bearings)gaskets look good and I'm unable to find any signs of cracks use the solvent technique. There is some heavy pitting on the number four and it seemed like there was some of that block sealer but it could have been rust.Any ideas or other places to look.

The sleeves were used,so its possible.Has new o-rings and went in tight. If it was that small a coolent leak you would think the block sealer would take care of it.If seen it fix much worse.

Mike: I located cracked heads on a 500 by removing injectors and water manifold on top of heads, filled with coolant to top of cyl head, turned each cyl to TDC, put air pressure in injector hole, and watched for bubbles. Found two of the heads bad. Worked good for me.

Could you see that crack with the liner in?I had just replaced those. How could that explain the water in the oil though?

More info: the fire rings(gaskets) where crushed down to .087"-095". on both 3 and 4

If the sleeves are new, I doubt that is your problem, but when they do crack it frequently results in leakage at the bottom of the sleeve(around the O-ring doughnuts) as the sleeve begins to move up and down slightly w/ each stroke. I suspect a cracked head. Get them magnafluxed would be my first step.

Have your head magna fluxed, or better yet pressure checked. Cracks are generally around the valves, or between them. DK

Odd are #4 sleeve counterbore flange is cracked.
It will be between where the fire ring sets and the fire dam on the sleeve. The crack will go straight down into the water chamber.
