I have a case 1070 that has very weak pressure and will not hold a remote cylinder in place under load. This only occurs on one side of the remote (i.e. can hold cylinder extended, but not retracted) but it happens on both of the remotes. From the rear of the tractor, the weak side of the remotes is on the right side. Any idea what could be wrong? The remote will hold pressure when holding the remote lever in forward position.

The rightside endcap has what are know as thermal relief valves. At some point the system has overheated and the nylon bodies have warped and the tiny balls that hold the pressure in the hoses are no longer seating properly. Replace the bodies and o rings and the guides that hold the ball and it will be good as new. If you have a good Case ag dealer the service dept is very familiar with your problem, just look up the old man in the shop! The warped bodies can be a pain to remove as they go deep into bores and warp out into passages in the body, maybe if you want you could have the dealer remove/ install the new seats in the endcap. They may have to be drilled out and this must be done carefully so as to not go deep enough to touch the bottom of the bore and damage the oring seat. mEl

mEl, thanks for the info. I am definetly a novice when it comes to this. The endcap that you are referring to, where is it and how would I go about removing it to bring it to my dealer to have them replace the required parts? Thanks in advance. Mark

Its the piece with the fittings in it the hoses fasten to. Leave the fittings in the endcap as there are balls and springs inside the fittings. Use a 9/16 socket and short extension to remove the 4 capscrews that hold it on the Dual remote valve. Before starting the project put the left side of the tractor downhill so the internal check balls stay put, as you remove it look how the internal parts are in there. There will be two pins sticking out of the endcap, lay them aside and reinsert them when you reasemble it. clean and dry everything and grease the gasket to hold it in place, one less thing you have to fight. Put it on the endcap with grease and put the bolts in to hold the gasket in place, grease to hold the check ball springs in the body will be helpful also. Its not hard, you just have to be careful. mEl

eMl, thanks for the info, I wanted to make sure I am replacing the right parts and tried to upload the parts diagram with my reply to confirm the parts but could not get it to work. Would you mind sending me your e-mail address so I can send the parts diagram to confirm the parts you are talking about. Again thanks for all your help.

What happens when you switch the hoses around?

The weak side stays the same. The good pressure just changes to retracting the cylinder and holding pressure vs extending the cylinder and holding pressure per the original hose positions.
