Just curious. I seem to remember years ago looking at a 930 as stated on the decal, however the owner said it was a 931. What"s the difference?

Western Specials had a set-back front axle, wide rear fenders, wide swing drawbar, no 3 pt , and a few other differences, incl. different wheel and tire options. 730/830 westerns had non-adjustable rear and front axles, late model 930/1030 westerns had adjustable axles, early ones did not. There were also "hybreds", where the wide swing drawbar was deleted andthe 3pt installed, leaving only the side fenders and set-back front axle to differentiate from the row crop version.

Next time I see an old Case I"ll check it out. The number is found on the serial number plate, right?

Yes it does....in fact in the 730/830 you will find 733,734 and 735 configurations too. I don't remember off the top of my head which each one is but one of those will be orchard, high clearance, etc.

931 designates it as the rowcrop version, 932 would be the western special version. Likewide, if it was a 941 on the tag, it would be a spark ignition(gas/propane) rowcrop, 942 a gas powered western special . The decals on all of them would say 930.

I've been reading about the "Western Special". What exactly is different about those tractors?
